South Trail is located within the Willoughby State Forest. The trail is 3.5 miles in length and considered moderately difficult. The hike obtains an elevation gain of 1,450 feet while traveling across mixed terrain and through Swampy's Pond. A steep ascent to Pulpit Rock and Mt. Pisgah offer panoramic views. The trail terminates along SR 5A, north of the trailhead and north of Willoughby Cliffs Natural Area.
Directions: From West Burke, VT, Trailhead is located along SR 5A before reaching the southern tip of Lake Willoughby which cuts into the State Forest.
Elevation: 2,751 feet
Elevation Gain: 1,450 feet
