This lake is very similar to Trail Gulch Lake. Less than two miles separate the two trailheads. Long Gulch Lake is situated in rugged country in the Carter Meadows area and is a popular spot for day rides and for fishing. It is also one of the Trinity Alps Lakes as it lies within the bounds of the Trinity Alps Wilderness. The loop trip with Trail Gulch Lake is more difficult from this direction due to the steep grades.
Directions: From Fort Jones, Follow Highway 3 south for 25 miles to the Callahan-Cecilville Road (County Hwy. 1C0293) turnoff. Continue on this paved, two-lane road for another 11 miles to Hidden Horse Campground which is situated on a forest service road just off of County Hwy. 1C02. The trailhead lies beyond this campground, one mile past the Trail Gulch Lake Trailhead.
