This is a modest lake, more like a pond, situated in a rocky basin amidst the steep forested ridges and glacial cirques of the Carter Meadows area. It is accessed via a 3.0 mile trail out of Carter Meadows. The lake is suitable for day trips or overnight stays. The trail from the lake to the ridgetop is steep, rocky and obscured. This section is not recommended for stock traffic.

Directions: From Fort Jones, Follow Highway 3 south for 25 miles to the Callahan-Cecilville Road (County Hwy. 1C02/93) turnoff. Continue on this paved, two-lane road for another 11 miles to Hidden Horse and Carter Meadows Campgrounds which lie on a forest service road just off of County Hwy. 1C02. Continue on for about three miles to a junction. Turn left (south) to the Fish Lake trailhead. If you miss this turnoff, you will find yourself at the Trail Creek Campground.
