Powell Gap Trail is a quick hike to a seldom used overlook.

The trail is only 1-mile round-trip, and leads to an overlook that few people travel. It makes a steady climb to a terrific viewpoint of the eastern region.

Directions: From Front Royal, VA, Skyline Drive travels the entire length of Shenandoah National Park. Mile markers are placed along the right-hand side of the road heading south. They are numbered from north to south beginning at the northern terminus in Front Royal, Virginia. Facilities, trails and park features use the mile markers as points of reference. Park in the grassy area off the Drive at mile 68.6. Start on the white-blazed Appalachian Trail for about .5 mile. A short spur leads to the overlook.
