The trail to Mist Falls begins at the end of Highway 180 east of Cedar Grove. This is the busiest trail in the area, so if you don't want to be hiking with crowds begin your hike early or choose another path. Begin hiking eastward from the trailhead. The first two miles of the trail lead along the northern shore of the Kings River and remain level.
At two miles the trail turns northward (left) following the glaciated valley of the South Fork of the Kings River. The trail rises above the river through dense forest, then climbs above tree line. Switchbacks bring hikers to another trail junction at the four mile marker. This is the overlook trail for the falls. A few use trails around the falls provide hikers with various views of the loud, crashing cascade. Mist Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
Directions: From Cedar Grove Village, Drive eastward along Highway 180 to roads end. Find the trailhead near the ranger station at the eastern end of the parking area.
