The St. Varian Mountain Trail is very steep at its western end for 1.5 miles and at mile 2 at the eastern stretch. Little water is available on the trail. It crosses through Rocky Mountain National park near St. Varian Mountain.

Directions: From Ward, Take CO 72 north to Peaceful Valley. Take Road #114 to its dead end at the trailhead (4WD recommended). Or you can hike the South St. Vrain trail to the trailhead from Peaceful Valley.

Ending Elevation: 11,300 feet

Elevation Gain: 1,500 feet

Distance: 6.5 miles

Usage: Heavy to Extremely heavy

Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous
