This trail begins at the Lost Man Picnic Area and ascends three and a half miles to Holter Ridge. The trail leads through a redwood grove and along the Lost Man drainage. This trail is open to mountain bikes so keep that in mind while hiking.
From the parking area walk through the picnic area to pick up the trail. It begins by heading eastward along the northern bank of Lost Man Creek. The trail is relatively level for the first mile. At the end of that mile it crosses a small tributary to Lost Man Creek and begins to ascend slowly. At this point the trail also begins to leave the creek side.
The canyon is relatively steep at this point, so expect a steep ascent. Approximately two miles from the picnic area the trail turns northward following the creek. In approximately three-quarters of a mile the trail turns northward again contouring the canyon wall. The trail turns sharply southward after climbing 150 feet then northward again ascending a ridge.
In a quarter mile the trail reaches the divide separating the Prairie Creek drainage from that of the Klamath River. After gaining the ridge the trail turn southward, following the ridge to Bald Hills Road. Bikers will want to continue along the ridge to complete their ride to Redwood Creek Overlook.
Directions: From Orick, Follow Highway 101 northward approximately 4 miles to Lost Man Road. Turn right on to Lost Man Road and park at the trailhead.
