The trail to Four Stream begins at the Staircase Ranger Station and leads northward along the western bank of the North Fork Skokomish River. The beginning elevation of this short track is 800 feet. It climbs slightly, less than 200 feet, as it follows the river one mile north to a trail junction. The trail leading eastward crosses the river on a wooden bridge leading to the North Fork Skokomish Trail. This will be your return route if you choose to make a loop of this short trek. Continue northward from this junction to reach Staircase Rapids and Four Stream. The trail ends within a mile of this junction after crossing to the northern bank of Four Stream.
On your return retrace your steps to the junction and turn left crossing the North Fork Skokomish River. On the eastern bank of the river turn right and walk southward through a burn area ascending slightly to a stream crossing. This is Slate Creek, cross it and continue southward one half mile to the Staircase Ranger Station.
