The Horton Butte Trail is connects Fish Creek and Indianhead Basin Trails and is suitable for horses and hikers to Round Lake and beyond. The trail crosses Fish Creek, which can be hazardous during peak runoff, and begins a series of switchbacks to Round Lake. Water is unavailable for four miles after the crossing. The trail continues switchbacking as it climbs towards Horton Butte, once the site of a Forest Service lookout, and passes an old cabin site and a burn high above Round Lake. Camp locations can be found at Round Lake and a couple of other scenic spots near the top of Horton Butte. Portions of the trail are faint due to low use. The trail junctions with Indianhead Basin Trail, leading into Surprise Lake and the Summit Trail.

Directions: From Moore Point, This trail connects Fish Creek Trail (#1248) with the Indianhead Basin Trail (#1250).
