The Little Cataloochee Trail is a moderate trail, 5 miles in length. This trail may be accessed from the Balsam Mountain Campground area or off Cataloochee Road's gauging station / campground area which is due east. The trail travels along many smaller ridges past old homesteads and through a hardwood forest which tends to create a canopy overhead.
Directions: From Blue Ridge Parkway, NC, 10 miles north of Soco Gap on Balsam Mountain Road (closed in winter), off the Blue Ridge Parkway around Milepost 458. Take the road to the very end and begin on Palmer Creek Trail. It ends at Pretty Hollow Gap Trail which you will want to turn right and dip down to connect with Little Cataloochee Trail.
