Hike two-mile Sand Ramp Trail to the foothills of Sangre de Cristos. Survey the panorama of sandy planes at the overlook or continue down the trail to the east and north perimeters of the dunes. Midday jaunts on the Sand Ramp can be brutal—wake early to complete this route, before the searing sun is high.
