The Widforss Trail leads ten miles southwestward from Bright Angel Spring, along the head of The Transept to the rim of Haunted Canyon. This route leads through the cool forests of the north rim. It provides views southward into the Grand Canyon. An interpretive brochure, available at the trailhead, provides information about the plants and wildlife along the north rim.
Begin this hike at Widforss Trailhead, elevation 8,160 feet. The trail leads southwestward skirting the northern rim of The Transept drainage. In the second mile of this trek the trail switches back on its self to make easy crossings of two tributaries of The Transept. Beyond these switchbacks the trail contours the eastern rim of The Transept then leads southward over the wooded northern rim. The trail ends five miles from the trailhead at the head of Haunted Canyon.
