More than 28 miles (45 km) of connecting trails wind through the pine forest around Long Pine Key Campground. The Long Pine Key Nature Trail is a continuous trail that runs 7 miles (11 km) west from the campground to Pine Glades Lake along the main park road. It is open to bicycles. The Old Ingraham Highway is also open to bicycles. It runs 11 miles (18 km) south and west from near the Royal Palm Visitor Center and has two overnight campsites along the way.

  • The short spur of the Anhinga Trail, adjacent to the Royal Palm Visitor Center, is one of the best places for spotting wildlife like alligators, turtles, anhingas, egrets, and herons.
  • Many of the trails in this section of the park are wheelchair accessible.
  • Camp at Long Pine Key (or Flamingo campground) to fully immerse yourself in the habitat, including the cacophony of night noises that the day-trippers sadly miss.
