This route leads through the orchards of Fruita Campground then climbs a slope next to the Fremont River. It is an easy walk at first through some lovely orchards and a lush valley. The track begins to ascend steadily approximately one quarter mile from the trailhead. In another half mile it turns sharply southward and begins climbing steeply. The track ends at a high point that provides views of the Fremont River Gorge and Capitol Reef. The last portion of the trail is considered strenuous by the Park Service.
Directions: From Capitol Reef Visitor Center, Drive southward slightly more than one mile to the trailhead for Fremont River Overlook.
