The track leading to Hickman Bridge begins along Highway 24 a mile and a half east of the visitor center. The elevation of this trailhead is approximately 5,320 feet. From this point the track follows the northern bank of the Fremont River for a short distance before switching back and climbing the reef. The trail ascends three hundred feet in the next three quarters of a mile to Hickman Bridge. Signposts along this trail provide descriptions of the surrounding natural features. Directions: From Capitol Reef Visitor Center, Drive eastward on Highway 24 approximately 1.5 miles to the Hickman Bridge Trailhead.
