A walk through the canyons will give you the best idea of the natural beauty here. The unmaintained 8.1-mile trail follows the beds of White and Armstrong canyons, passing underneath Sipapu, Kachina, and Owachomo natural bridges and below prehistoric cliff dwellings and granaries, then crosses a wooded plateau to complete the loop. You can save two miles by arranging a car shuttle between Sipapu and Owachomo trailheads. It's a bit easier to descend at Sipapu and climb out the gentler grade at Owachomo. There's also a trail into the canyons near Kachina Natural Bridge for a shorter hike. You'll need water, suitable footwear, a compass, and map (available at the visitor center). The loop usually takes five to six hours to complete.
