Big Cypress National Preserve is home to the Big Cypress Swamp which supports the marine estuaries along Florida’s southwest coast and is essential to the health of the neighboring Florida Everglades. The Preserve protects over 720,000 acres of this vast swamp and contains a mixture of tropical and temperate plant communities that are home to a diversity of wildlife, including the elusive Florida panther. The area is popular for hiking, hunting, and ranger-led activities.

  • Florida Trail is well marked and an easy stroll in the dry season, but underwater much of the rainy season, which is May to Oct.
  • There are ranger-led activities throughout the day; seasonally there are ranger-led canoe treks several times a week
