  • Land's End is the wildest locale in San Francisco, the place where the city ends and the wild blue Pacific begins. While the tourists are eating crab cocktails at the Cliff House, you can set out on the Land's End Coastal Trail and hike to Mile Rock Beach, Eagle's Point, and other oceanfront locales that feature million-dollar views of crashing surf, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Marin Headlands.
  • A favorite of San Francisco locals but little known to visitors, Sutro Heights Park is located right across Point Lobos Avenue from the Merrie Way entrance to Land's End. An easy trail loops through the ruins of Adolph Sutro's estate, providing a fascinating glimpse into the life of the 1880s entrepreneur and amazing views of the Cliff House and Pacific Coast beyond.
  • On summer weekends, be prepared for an anatomy lesson at Mile Rock Beach. Nude sunbathing is common on this rocky stretch of sand.
