• Tubing the Yampa River is one of Steamboat's great summer activities, a verifiable antidote to a fast-paced world. Simply sit back in your tube and float three miles from Backdoor Sports to just past the James Brown Soul Center of the Universe Bridge (yes, that's really its name). The trip takes about an hour.
• All tubers must wear "substantial" footwear: old sneakers, sandals with straps that fasten, or water shoes. Flip-flops are not permitted. If you don't have shoes, you can rent some for a minimal cost. Life jackets are highly recommended and provided free.
• Ask ahead about age restrictions, which change with river conditions. Mid-summer younger kids can tube—but under age five is NEVER recommended. Kids should have their own tube but can hold hands with parents as they float. Tube rental includes transportation back to the store from the take-out spot.
