About a half-hour drive from Port of Spain on North Coast Road is one of Trinidad's best beaches, if not the best. You'll know by the crowds you'll find there on the weekends! On the site of a protected cove and quaint fishing village, this classic Caribbean beach of white sand and swaying coconut palms is patrolled by lifeguards carrying warning flags for the sometimes strong currents. Convenient facilities include restrooms, snack bars, changing facilities, picnic tables, and kayak rentals. Approximately three-quarters of the way along the beach, there is a small concrete jetty, popular for casual fishing. At the western end of the beach is a depot selling fresh fish. The long, sheltered bay is home to only a few local hotels and beach rentals, so on a weekday it feels very local.
