This mellow, popular beach just 15 minutes from downtown Perth lines a mainly residential area, with some good cafes and pubs. Norfolk pines, grassy lawns, and the picturesque Edwardian-style Indiana Tea House line the back of a wide crescent of sand that is protected on one end by a rocky jetty. Kids play cricket while rollerbladers, bikers, and joggers make their way on the beach promenade. This was actor and Perth native Heath Ledger's favorite beach, and former Australian prime minister John Curtain lived nearby for years. Visit on the weekend for the popular Sunday Sessions, when beachfront pubs throng with afternoon crowds chatting away over the Indian Ocean sunset.
