The Lake Fork Trail has been designated a National Recreation Trail. It follows Lake Creek through a rocky canyon, then gradually breaks into open meadows. The trail is generally gentle and well marked. It offers some very beautiful scenery and is easy to hike. It leaves from the Lake Fork Area where there is parking available and begins to climb through the Lake Fork Canyon. The stream flows within a few feet of the trail in many places and steep rock walls rise on either side. As the trail climbs, the terrain begins to flatten out and aspens replace the Douglas fir. Here, open meadows begin to appear and gradually Table Mountain comes into view.

Directions: From South Fork, Follow U.S. Highway 160 past the Lake Fork Roadside Area to the Big Meadows Road 10 1/2 miles southwest of South Fork. Go past Big Meadows and Shaw Reservoirs, about 10 miles off U.S. Highway 160. This road intersects the Tie Mill Trail (Forest Development Trail 835) from the northern end.
