Little-known by many locals, this is the first authentic Japanese bathhouse in Australia, and just a short tram ride from the city center. This is a straight-up, straight place, with clear rules about cleanliness, privacy, and modest behavior. Most of the clientele are Japanese ladies, but everyone who makes a booking is welcomed by the staff, with gentle geisha smiles and proffered robes. Soak away jetlag in (very) hot tubs, and then have sake or green tea and snacks in the tatami lounge as you wait for your shiatsu massage. Allow a good two hours for sauna, soak and body treatment, and a day's travel budget as well. Be sure to book ahead: baths are divided by gender, and usually are used by only one or two people at a time.
