An unassuming shopfront on a back street hides this gorgeous, unpretentious, gay-owned café and bar. The glass-to-ceiling windows in front provide an open, inviting feeling during the day, making it popular with families (albeit upscale, chic families with only one or two fashionable children) as well as lesbians and mostly gay men en route to the nearby gym. Excellent menus feature specialty meat dishes as well as the best chips (a.k.a. French fries) in Melbourne. The table service is very friendly and attentive, even by American standards. At night, a DJ sets up on the bar and spins low-intensity house music (nothing you can't talk over) as partiers kick off their evenings with a late supper. By 11:00 PM it's downright crowded and the kitchen closes at midnight.
