Billed as Melbourne's only "fetish club", Abode is where dressed-up goths, gays, and leatherfolk of all genders/orientations hang out. Some people have stayed wildly loyal to this club over the years while others find it cliquish. Each of the many weekly theme nights, such as Confessional and SINthetic, attracts a different, specific group of people. Some nights (such as fetish/dance specials) get a mixed straight and gay crowd, but others pull straight suburban swingers in chinos and overdone hair. The space is safe, reasonably lit, with a few cozy dim corners. Sometimes fetish art appears on the first floor. Newcomers get shown around once they pass the screening at the door that weeds out anyone not dressed properly (whatever that means).
