The Atlantic City Historical Museum, on Garden Pier at New Jersey Avenue, covers nearly 150 years of the city's history. Visitors are welcomed to the museum by Mr. Peanut, who greeted visitors to the Planters Peanut store on the boardwalk for many years. The video Boardwalk Ballyhoo tells the story of the birth of the city in 1854, with the opening of the first municipal railroad charter, and works its way up to modern day. The Museum Gift Shop features several terrific books chronicling the history of America's Playground. The museum is open every day, and admission is free.
