If Atlantic City is synonymous with anything, it's gambling and world-class casinos. It is home to more than a dozen casinos, some dating to the 1970s, when gambling first became legal here. The city's casinos are open 24 hours a day and offer the games found in other gambling meccas, including slot machines, video poker, craps, blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and poker. Popular casinos include the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort, featuring 2,000 varieties of slot machines, including 200 penny slots; the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, which has 2,000 luxury rooms and a 161,000-square-foot casino with 4,100 slot machines and 200 table games; and the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Hotel, which features 3,000 slot machines and 210 table games. Other casinos of note include Bally's, Caesars, Harrah's, the Showboat, the Tropicana Casino & Resort, and Trump Marina. A number of casinos—including the Trump Taj Mahal, the Tropicana, and Bally's—are on the boardwalk and have spectacular ocean-view rooms. Trump Marina, the Borgata, and Harrah's are on the nearby inlet. Smoking is allowed in all casinos.
