Atlantic City boardwalk ((courtesy, Atlantic Convention and Visitors Bureau))

The Atlantic City Boardwalk is the world's longest boardwalk, measuring nearly six miles long and running parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. The boardwalk, featured in the classic Monopoly board game, dates to 1870, when hotel owners petitioned the city to build it to keep sand out of the hotels that lined the beach. The boardwalk is home to Steel Pier, a 110-year-old amusement park featuring a double-decker carousel and the Rocket, an extreme ride that propels riders at more than 100 miles per hour. Many other attractions line the boardwalk, including the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum; shops with games, food, and clothing; Boardwalk Hall; and several casinos, including the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino and the Bally's Wild West Casino. Other highlights include the New Jersey Korean War Memorial, which can be found at the Boardwalk and Park Place; Atlantic City Miniature Golf, on the Boardwalk at Mississippi Avenue; and the Atlantic City Historical Museum.
