Shark seekers should make the trip out French Cay—a small, uninhabited island designated as a bird sanctuary—for a chance to dive Southwest Reef. The area is a breeding ground for nurse sharks in the summer, and the largely untouched reefs along this deep wall, which starts at about 50 feet, are a magnet for reef sharks and eagle rays. Massive barrel sponges and lush soft corals adorn the wall, but currents and depth make this a dive best suited to intermediate or advanced divers only.
