This grand tour of the monument's spectacular high country links up a series of trails for an exciting 9.5-mile loop. It's an all-day hike with lots of ups and downs, so bring plenty of water and perhaps a picnic lunch. You'll start from Echo Canyon Trailhead near the end of Bonita Canyon Drive. Head down Echo Canyon Trail for 1.6 miles, turn right on Upper Rhyolite Canyon, and continue downhill 1.1 miles to the junction with Sarah Deming Trail. This trail follows its namesake canyon gently uphill, then switchbacks up to a junction with Heart of Rocks Loop in 1.6 miles. The 1.1-mile loop side trip takes in such famous features as “Duck on a Rock” and “Punch and Judy.” Back at the junction, continue on the well-named Big Balanced Rock Trail one mile to the junction for Inspiration Point Trail, a relatively level one-mile side trip to a panorama that includes Cochise Head and Rhyolite Canyon. Returning to the junction, follow Mushroom Rock Trail down into Hunt Canyon for 1.2 miles to the next junction, then make one last climb up Ed Riggs Trail back to the trailhead.
