In 2004, plans to scuttle this U.S. Navy ship in deeper water were thwarted when heavy rains flooded the ship and sank it prematurely. It now rests upside down on the seafloor a short boat ride from the main dock. The stern of the ship is just 10 feet underwater, making it easily accessible for beginner divers and snorkelers, while the bow end (some 70 feet deep) is better suited to advanced divers. The ship is still intact, and a collection of tropical fish, as well as invertebrates like nudibranchs and anemones, call it home.
