But the bustling capital isle of Malé is devoid of any good beaches, making this one worth seeking out. You will feel like a local with the families and couples who frequent this government-built sandy cove, perfectly safe for swimming and good for wee ones. Also, this community-focused area has a number of water sports, music shows, carnivals, parades, you name it, so it's a fun place to soak up some local color. The landscaped beach area has an adjoining breakwater stretching all the way around to the harbor, providing a pleasant jogging route especially popular in the evenings, when it is cooler. Fridays are packed, but weekdays tend to be less so.
