Intimate dining in a jazzy atmospheric setting reminiscent of a cluttered 1930s opium dive from a Marlene Dietrich movie, gay-owned Ka Jok See attracts a sophisticated crowd of mixed locals, expats, and visiting fashionistas. This is one of the long-standing, unadvertised hot spots on the island and reservations are a must. Old newspapers scotch-taped to tables for placemats give a sense of the style. Recommended dishes include the green curries and deep-fried prawns wrapped in Phuket noodles, which can be washed down with Chinese tea or Chilean wines. Khun Lek is your host and has a hand-picked staff of handsome waiters. Without any signage, it could be hard to find, but that is part of the attraction.
