The only official gay bar outside of Honolulu, Mask is a tiny but clean and friendly spot in a strip mall near downtown Kailua-Kona. It attracts a handful of locals and tourists singing away on the ever–present Karaoke mic on a horseshoe–shaped bar next to a small dance floor. You'll get the feeling that it exists for novelty only, and on some week nights when less than a dozen patrons stare at each other, you might want to bring a good book. But come late on a Friday or Saturday night and the place will fill up with a friendly, predominately gay, male clientele, with some gals too. Light meals and pupus are also served.
