Keauhou Bay, located just south of Kailua-Kona town on the Big Island's western shores, is one of the best places on earth to swim up close to harmless manta rays. These elegant nocturnal beasts (some with twelve–foot wing spans) feed on plankton attracted by light, and gay-friendly Kona Honu Divers hosts a large boat that shines huge floodlights on to the rays to attract their dinner, and divers or snorkelers can swim among the rays as the mantas do a kind of underwater ballet. It's called one of the most unique ocean experiences in the world, and not to be missed by any lover of the ocean.
