  • Stop first at Hale Ho'okipa, the park's visitor information center, located 4.2 miles south of the airport via Hawaii 19. Here you can pick up maps and brochures before heading into the park itself.
  • The park has few visitor facilities but many opportunities for exploring on your own, including several historic footpaths, birding, and snorkeling.
  • Stay on the trails. It is easy to get lost out on the lava.
