It's almost impossible to imagine the vicious battle waged at this very beach more than 100 years ago. Playa de los Muertos, or "Beach of the Dead," honors those who lost their lives in the infamous struggle between gold smugglers and natives protecting their bounty. Today, the beach is strictly sun and fun, host to a slew of oceanfront restaurants, night clubs, and palapa bars. The sky is always full of parasailers and at night, mariachi bands entertain the crowds.
