Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge features two miles of continuous sandy beach and deep near-shore water access. Visitors can observe leatherback sea turtles, a variety of birds, and an array of coastal woodland plants. The ancient Aklis Archaeological Site is also located at the Sandy Point NWR.

  • During the Leatherback turtle nesting season--April to August--volunteers are invited to help collect data and relocate nests.
  • Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge is closed to the general public during the peak turtle nesting season. Otherwise, it is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
