This trail provides a variety of sights in a fairly short distance, including beautiful views of La Plata through the aspen trees. The meadows near the top offer nice campsites and food for horses with easy access to the creek. The trail is steep in spots as it winds through the various transitional zones.

Directions: From Durango, Colorado, Take U.S. Highway 550 north from Durango 10 miles to Hermosa. Turn west on County Road 201 and keep to the right. This road will become Forest Development Road 576. Follow this road for approximately 3 miles. The trailhead is on the north side of the road and adequate parking is available.

Elevation: 7.700 feet

Ending Elevation: 9,300 feet

Usage: Light

Difficulty: Strenuous
