Located seven miles south of Haines on Mud Bay Road, Chilkat State Park offers a log cabin visitor center, 15-site campground, picnic area, boat launch, and trails. The campground sits in a mixed forest of evergreens and deciduous trees at the edge of Chilkat Inlet. The boat launch provides access to the inlet, and in early June, the run of king salmon. The visitor center boasts incredible views of Chilkat Inlet, Rainbow Glacier, and Davidson Glacier.

  • In addition to the stunning views, the visitor center has wildlife spotting scopes that you can use to search the inlet for seals, porpoises, whales, and even bears and goats on the far shore.
  • Three hiking trails are in the park. Seduction Point Trail and Battery Point Trail are easy coastal walks with great views. The Mount Riley Trail is steeper and more challenging, and the views from the summit are unbelievable.
