This huge bay in West New Britain Province is said to harbor 60 percent of all the coral species in the Indo-Pacific region, and is considered one of the oldest reef systems in the world. It's one of the most important and popular dive spots in the entire region, attracting scuba enthusiasts the world over. The waters here are generally calm and warm, and feature drift dives, wreck dives, and wall dives. The best diving happens on the far western side of the bay. Dolphins, dugongs, barracuda, and even orcas can be spotted in the area. Stay and dive with the Walindi Plantation Resort, a well-regarded full-service diving resort popular with scuba freaks from around the world thanks to its proximity to some of the best reefs in Kimbe Bay. Traditional-style bungalows hidden among the jungle-like foliage front a long, if narrow, beach, and there are some rooms in a plantation house as well.
