The trail travels through a boggy forest and wetlands which is home to many reptiles and amphibians.

The Island Creek Trail starts in a parking area off SR 1004 and travels through a wetland. The trail is about a 1 hour hike through a beautiful coastal cypress forest. The foundation of this area is alkaline rock which neutralizes the acidic soil offering opportunities for a plant community.

Directions: From New Bern, NC, Take US 70 south for approximately 1 mile. Turn right at the Burger King restaurant. Travel to the stop sign, turning left onto SR 1004. Continue for 7 miles to the trailhead.

Elevation Gain: Minimal

Distance: 1.0 miles

Difficulty: Easy
