Barra da Tijuca is an upscale beach area located away from the center of Rio de Janeiro. It's well known for its shopping centers and gated communities for the wealthy, very Miami-like. The best beaches in Rio can be found here, with excellent surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and other activities. The water is clean and overall much less crowded than the beaches of Copacabana or Ipanema.
