  • Built in 1610 (a decade before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth), this impressive adobe structure has been occupied through the years by Mexican soldiers, Indian insurgents, the American military, and Governor Lew Wallace, who wrote Ben Hur here.
  • This is one of the Museums of New Mexico, which offers a discounted pass to all four.
  • You'll also find an excellent gift shop, with a wide range of books on history, Native Americana, and the southwest.
