This long white-sand beach still retains a small-village feel despite its popularity with tourists and its selection of resorts. The surf is gentler here than in other areas of the island, and the wide beach is often festooned with colorful fishing boats. Sanur is only about ten minutes from the large commercial (and beachless) city of Denpasar. The beach is surrounded by a large coral reef that is easy to snorkel, and large palm trees provide needed shade. Small stands sell refreshments and souvenirs, and there is also parasailing, surfing, snorkeling, glass-bottom boating, canoeing, jet-skiing, windsurfing, and small craft sailing. Just watch out for crowds during Australian and Indonesian holidays. Be sure to check out Sanur's nearby temples (the area is a traditional site of sorcery), especially the sacred temple of Ratu Ayu of Singgi, located within the grounds of the 11-story Grand Bali Beach Hotel.
