The Caixa Forum is the latest addition to Madrid's cultural heart. A modern architectural wonder, the CaixaForum was repurposed from the site of a century-old power plant not far away from the renowned Prado and Reina Sofia museums. Spread over seven floors, the brick and iron industrial structure hosts a rotating roster of eclectic multimedia exhibitions at no cost to the public. Outside the museum is Madrid's newest public square and Spain's first vertical garden comprised of 15,000 plants of 250 species planted into a façade without earth or gaps, making it the largest garden of its kind in the world. When visiting Madrid's established cultural gems such as the neighboring Thyssen-Bornemisza museum, it's worth the extra effort to peek into the CaixaForum to check out what Spain has been up to lately.
