  • Forty meters beneath the city is a complex of interconnected tunnels, passages, and caverns that have been used since the 6th century by soldiers and others. During World War II, residents used them to launch a rebellion against the Nazis.
  • There are tours in English and the use of a variety of dramatic touches makes this tour an excellent one for kids. Among the coolest things: Graffiti by WW II refuges and a hidden theater where famously unbalanced Emperor Nero performed--once singing through an earthquake.
  • Be aware that the tour involves going up and down steps and through some narrow (for some, claustrophobic) passages. Tours are daily and on one evening a week.
