FamilyExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
- Built in the 1st century, this is one of the best preserved Roman arenas anywhere. It is more complete than the Colliseum in Rome. With two levels of 60 arches each, it's a must to climb up to the top of the amphitheater and look down where gladiators faught bloody battles in Roman times. Today, the arena is still used for concerts, sporting events--most notably, bullfights.
- There are places where kids can scramble that do not have high walls or other protection so keep an eye on children at all times.
- Take a look at the construction as you explore. The huge stones with which the arena was built were fitted together without mortar.
