The cathedral provides a unique opportunity for visitors to see close up excavations that have uncovered centuries of structures that stood on this spot from the 4th century to the 12th century when the present church was built. Remnants of early Christian and late Roman Empire buildings are among those that have been uncovered.
Signage at the site is in both English and French, and excellent audio tours--though none specifically for children--are available in English.
In addition to the archaeological excavations and the imposing beauty of the cathedral itself, the biggest draw for active adolescents is probably to climb the 157 steps up the narrow winding staircase of the north tower. If you join them--and you should--you'll be rewarded with spectacular views out over Geneva.
