The Yard on Rupert Street is where a smart, slightly more mature, professional gay klatch gathers in the comfy confines of the lounge-like upstairs bar area. A favorite of the happy hour crowd, The Yard is more low-key and less cruisy than most other Soho options. It is also a superior meeting place for those in search of a place to quietly get better acquainted with more serious-minded suitors. All the action is generally upstairs in The Loft, which has an intimate sitting area with sofas, a long bar, and an outdoor patio area that is generally packed since the U.K. banned smoking in public spaces. Some places are about night caps and conversation, while others are about late nights and hooking up. The Yard is definitely the former (though that doesn't necessarily mean the latter is out of the question either.)
